4th of July

While it's still July I thought it would be a good idea to get around to writing a post about our 4th of July. Better late than never! :o)

This has to be one of my favorite holidays. This year was a little sad since DJ had to work and it was the first year in almost a decade that we have not watched fireworks together. Neither of us were too happy about that but we decided he won't work another Independence Day as long as we can both help it.

We made a special t-shirt for Taylor to wear

Taylor and I spent the morning baking goodies to take to a BBQ later that day. We made a S'mores Ice Cream cake and an apple pie.

Our friends Ted and Kristin were hosting the BBQ. We forgot her sunglasses :o(

She got to swim in the pool with the girls. . .

We stuck to tradition and painted our nails the same as we have every year since she was born.

Taylor loved playing with sparklers! I think she went through about 15 of them!!

Since DJ wasn't there on the 4th to celebrate with us we made special plans the next night to go to Colorado National Speedway and watch their firework show. Taylor was so excited!! Grandma and Uncle Preston came too.

After the races we took her down to the pits and walked around all the race cars. Most of the drivers were giving out autographs and Taylor thought that was pretty cool.

I kept telling Taylor she could become a race car driver and we could paint her name on the side of her car one day just like this -

She said she didn't want to drive the cars but she at least sat in one.

4th of July

We had an amazing 4th of July. Our awesome friends Erin and Erik had a BBQ. Honestly, Erin's name should be Martha. She definitely the hostess with the mostess. We wanted to take something festive for the BBQ so we made patriotic strawberries.

We started with this . . .

 And this . . .

And ended with this . . .

Before we went Taylor was taking pictures of everything around the house. I let her photograph me too. She told DJ he looked perfect and I looked 'so cute'. She's such a sweety.

Their house backs up to an open field . . . with cows. I LOVE it! Taylor was so excited when DJ held her up over the fence to see.

We got to play washers. I've never understood why we only play that game on big summer holidays. Too much fun!

Every year I get a picture of our family on the 4th of July. I think this is my favorite by far. When we were taking the picture Taylor held up her strawberry and said "cupcake". That must be the new thing instead of saying 'cheese'.

It was such a fun, relaxing night

Erin and her sweet niece, Abby

I LOVE this girl.

Giving Amanda some baby love . . .

And the famous sparkly toes picture. Every year Taylor and I paint our toes red, white, and blue and take a picture of our feet on Coors field. This year since we didn't get to we opted for the next best thing - our backyard.

We hope everyone enjoyed the 4th as much as we did!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game . . .

Friday night we went to the Rockie's game. It was so much fun. I love going to baseball games in the middle of summer. There's something so magical about a baseball field. It was a game to celebrate the 4th of July so we got to see the fireworks.

Taylor loves baseball games just as much as we do. When we got to the seats the first thing she said was, "I want a ball this time". Last time we went to a game she was given a foul ball. I wrote about it back here. And sure enough, two plays after sitting down she got another ball.

She also got dip'n'dots! Yum!

She loved that they turned her tounge purple . . .

and since she shared with Aunt Jess we just had to take a picture of it.

I could have sat here all weekend not minded it one bit. . .

It's always better when your team wins too. . .

When she knew she didn't have to wait for the fireworks much longer you could just see the excitment dripping from her. Daddy looks tired though. Maybe next time we go to a game we won't have a garage sale the same morning.

The fireworks were amazing! They are every year we go. But I think watching Taylor's face was better than watching the fireworks this year.

Since most of the local firework shows have been canceled due to the wildfires I am so happy we got to take Taylor to this. It was great!

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July - Three days worth actually! On Friday DJ and I went to the Rockie's game. We go every year. We sit in the $5 'Rock Pile' seats just so we can go down onto the field afterwards and watch the fireworks. I love this. It's my favorite part of the 4th of July. Well this year Carrie met us down there after the game with Taylor. We all laid out on the field and I think Taylor was more entertaining than the fireworks display. It's amazing how much this little girl loves fireworks. We tried covering her ears but she wanted nothing to do with that. She also kept saying, "More. More" when it was all done. Too cute!

Some hoe DJ and his best friend Chad always have shaved heads together every time we go to this game. . . it's never planned. I have identical pictures to this for every year.

Every year I take a picture of my feet on the field. Now every year we will have pictures of Taylor's feet with mine!

I love this picture of our family. Love love love it!

You can't really see it but right above my nose is a red spot on Tay's cheek. She was bit by a spider!

Who is happier?? ;o)

About half way through she found her pockets. She loves pockets!

On Saturday Paul and Carrie had their annual 4th of July party. It's always such a good time. We ate a lot (not me because I still can't chew very well), played in the washers tournament and just had fun mingling. I don't want to brag or anything. . . but like I'd been telling everyone for about a month before the party. . . I am the washers champion 2 years in a row now! That can't just be luck! ;o) Of course DJ lit off the fireworks that we buy every year. Taylor loved them. She is obsessed with the 'poppers' that all little kids throw at the ground.

I spent much of the night putting the bows back in her hair

If only her eyes were open. . .

On Sunday we just hung out, cleaned up after the party and relaxed. We planned on taking Taylor to a firework display at one of the local rec centers but we were all rained out. Instead she tried running through the rain and has been begging mom to sing the song "It's raining, it's pouring... the old man is snoring. . ." Bad idea on my part. I should have known better. I think it will be a year before I get that song out of my head. We did find out though that Taylor loves salsa. She has to try her hand at anything someone else is eating. Her daddy had chips and salsa and she needed to try it. She stuck her chip in and continued sucking the salsa off for about 15 minutes. She ate a lot and it didn't seem to bother her at all. My two year old handles spicy food better than I do!!

Well I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. Enjoy the random pictures!
